Casper's Haunted House

http://www.mca.com/universal_pictures/casper

An interactive haunted house based on the new Universal Pictures release of the movie Casper (the ghost). A fun way to promote the movie! Perhaps all motion picture companies ought to take a cue from this fun site. I'm not sure how long this page will stay available but I assume it will stay up on the web at least as long as the combined movie and video rental run.

Universal V/IP (Universal Pictures)

http://www.mca.com/universal_pictures/

http://www.mca.com/universal_pictures/index.html

Info on Universal Pictures movies and new offerings. A well done site. There are Quicktime movie clips, email links to the stars of films and much more. This is one of the most visually exciting and well laid out web sites I've ever seen. Depending on the web browser you are using the page colors and backgrounds are stunning and it's evident that these pages from MCA/Universal were well thought out. You can easily forget that this site is a commercial vehicle for movie hype and just become amazed as each web page in this site rolls by quickly and beautifully as you click away. Something is always going on here and all the current Universal releases are up on web pages here along with trailers, film info and images.

Johnny Mnemonic

http://www.mnemonic.sony.com

Sony sure knows how to set up a web site and has some of the best pages to be seen on the WWW. This one is a tour-de-force of how a promo of a movie ala web should be done. Simply great. I hope this page stays around for a while - long past the video rental run on this movie. Very well done!

Buena Vista Pictures

http://www.wdp.com

I believe Buena Vista (a Disney Company) has another page or two on the web and they are certainly linked via the Disney page so why would this site also be listed here? It's new and out of the way and not a very well travelled site. The other reasons is that this page has links to press releases of upcoming and showing films (from Buena Vista), JPEG images, movie clips and it is all fairly well organized by movie title. It's not as dynamic as other major motion picture companys' pages and needs a little bit of polish. In any case - the info is good if not exciting and works fairly well with slower modem connections. Not great but not too bad...

The Lion's Den (MGM Interactive)

http://www.digiplanet.com/MGM/

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has set up a new site with its new MGM Interactive division. This site is exploratory (in transition) and is brand new. It is hoped that eventually this site will offer all sorts of info on the MGM film library, including new releases, info on United Artists film library and releases, MGM Worldwide Televsion info, MGM/UA Music and also will have info relating to the MGM/UA Licensing and Merchandising division. This new WWW site from MGM could become a great place to visit. Give it a look-see.

Internet Movie Database

http://www.msstate.edu/Movies/

http://www.cm.cf.ac.uk/Movies/moviequery.html

A great database of movie titles, actors, actresses, directors, etc. This database provides forms for searching for films by title, actors and movie genre (horror, drama, comedy, etc.). Since the forms section is interactive this database is also updated by YOU because users can augment or enter new information on films. You can even offer your review of a film. This is a very well done film resource page and keeps getting better and better.
